Atvars Lakstīgala is Latvian conductor, who was born in Riga, educated at the UdK Berlin, where he studied with Prof. Lutz Koehler, and at Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music, at which he received a bachelor’s degree in French horn with Prof. Arvids Klisans, and bachelor’s as well as master degree in conducting with Prof. Imants Resnis. Atvars also improved his professional mastery with Vassily Sinaisky, Leonid Grin, Neeme Jarvi, Paavo Jarvi, Heinrich Schiff and other distinguished teachers.
Atvars has been chief conductor of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra from January of 2010, till July of 2017. He directed the inaugural concert for the new Great Amber concert hall in Liepaja, Latvia’s most prestigious orchestral venue in November 6 and 7 of 2015.
Future engagements include, G.Verdi’s “Falstaff” original open air production in XXVth Sigulda opera festival in 29th july of 2017, as well as Liepaja Symphony orchestra’s German tour in October 2017, in November 2017 Atvars will make his debut in Mexico. Recent engagements include concerts with Kammerphilharmonie Graubunden in Switzerland, Cinderella Scottish Ballet, Opera Gala at “Sigulda Opera music festival” and many others.
